The Byerly Foundation was created after the sale of the Byerly Hospital to continue to serve the Hartsville community. Since the sale of the hospital, a significant number of community leaders have served on the Byerly Foundation Board.
Brianna Bunce Douglas (Term began 2012) Chair
Brianna is the Vice President for Administration and Title IX coordinator at Coker College. She and her husband, Bruce, have two children, McKendrie, 7, and Lila, 2. She is a member of the Vestry at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Hartsville. Prior to Coker College she was a business owner in downtown Hartsville.
Bob Brown (Term began 2014) Treasurer
Bob is the CEO of Integrated Systems, Inc. He also serves as a Board Member on the GSSM Foundation, as Chairman of the Board for the Duke Energy Center for Innovation and as a Board Member of the Heritage Community Bank.
Jerome Reyes (Term began 2013) Secretary
Jerome resides in Hartsville with his wife and their three children, and is the Pulse Coordinator with the S. C. Governor’s School for Science, Mathematics and Technology. Dr. Reyes joins PULSE as a former associate professor of Mathematics at Norfolk State University, where he taught courses from freshman-level Algebra to senior-level Design of Experiments. Dr. Reyes received his first bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Morehouse College and his second in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech. He graduated from Georgia Tech with a master’s and Ph.D. in operations research. For five years, he was also involved in four different National Science Foundation funded grants that focused on the level of K-12 education being offered in Virginia.
Harris DeLoach, Jr. (Term began 2013)
Harris is the Executive Chairman of the Board of Sonoco Products Company. He is serving as The Foundation’s representative on the TEACH Foundation in Hartsville and is also a trustee of The Duke Endowment and a member of the Board of Duke Energy.
Christopher L Frazier, Sr. (Term began 2015)
Chris and his wife, Betty, live in Hartsville and have five adult children. He is the Senior Pastor at Mount Olive Word of Life Church in Hartsville and the President of the Greater Hartsville Ministerial Alliance. Within the community, Chris serves on the board of the Hartsville Boys and Girls Club and is also part of the Butler Heritage Foundation. Chris was also a member of the Hartsville TEACH Foundation.
Alvin Heatley (Term began 2011)
Dr. Heatley retired after 37 years as an educator and then served as the Executive Director of the Darlington County Community Action Agency for six years. He serves on the board of commissioners of Florence Darlington Technical College, as the chairman of the Board of Directors of the Butler Heritage Foundation and as a member of the Board of Darlington County First Steps. He and his wife Dorothy Thompson Heatley, also a retired educator, have two adult children.
Rainey Knight (Term began 2014)
Rainey is an educational consultant and the former Superintendent of the Darlington County School District. She resides in Hartsville and has one adult son.
Nancy McGee (Term began 2013)
Nancy is a past president and current member of the Board of Directors of Kiwanis Club of Hartsville. Nancy serves as vice chair of The Community Foundation for a Better Hartsville, Chairs the City of Hartsville Parks Committee and is a member of the Main Street Hartsville Advisory Committee. She was president of the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce for 17 years prior to joining her husband, Bobby, at McGee Financial Group.
Bill Perry (Term began 2014)
Bill is the lead pastor at the Hartsville Community Fellowship Church. He is also a leadership consultant. He and his wife, Heather, live in Hartsville and have two children in college.
Barry Saunders (Term began 2011)
Barry is the vice president and Chief Financial Officer at Sonoco joined the Byerly Board in 2011. He and his wife, Lea, have two adult children. He is also a member of the S. C. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
Lex West (Term began 2015)
Lex is an owner and President of West Oil Company. He and his wife Sherry have two boys, Croxton, 15 and Joshua, 13. He is a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church and a board member of the Darlington County Education Foundation. He is a long term board member of the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee and Chairman of their Endowment Committee.
