The Byerly Foundation has provided approximately $17 million in grants to the greater Hartsville community. Currently, the Foundation has a little more than $20 million invested and generating income. Since its founding in 1995, The Byerly Foundation has made grants under three major categories, education, economic development and quality of life.

A partnership among The Byerly Foundation, the City of Hartsville, the Governor's School of Science and Math, and Coker College was formed to help move the freight rail station out of town. This was a complex project that required careful thought and funding to create a beautiful green space for the city.
